Am I missing something or did someone get a great deal on this F5? I was tempted to join the bidding but this is still more than I want to spend on my first mando. Still, it's hard to miss out on a good deal like this.

That's a pretty good deal, most of them I've seen have gone in the 3000 to 3200 range.

Those would be scratches.. That is about right on the price I sold one just like it for 2800.00 last year. Actually I threw a 1000.00 dollar bid at this one just for the heck of it You never know.

It looks to have the same color of burst as the Nashville Flatiron Festival F's. I thought it was a Festival when I first saw the pictures.

How about this for a good deal: # # <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/Gibson-A-3-Mandolin-1922_W0QQitemZ270120186923QQihZ017QQcategoryZ10179 QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

If I hadn't gone to work that day, I might've got that one.

Correct me if I am wrong here. That doesn't look like any A3 to me. Has anyone ever seen an A3 snakehead? I checked the archives and the 22 and 23 A3s there were all paddleheads.
I would say that that one had significant neck damage which is maybe why it went so cheap.

I've seen a lot of snakeheads and a lot of A3s but no A3 snakeheads. Then again, it IS Gibson and anything is possible. This mandolin, however, looks like a refinished A, probably originally a 1923 brown top. The A3 was a next to the top of the line grade with bound top, back, and fingerboard, #pearl logo and inlay, and wider soundhole rosette.
