I now own a y2k which has been very good to me over the past year and was thinking about getting an Absaroka in the fall. I would love to hear from anyone who plays one. I am mostly playing Celtic music right now so I was thinking about the "D" hole ,a style. Thanks in advance for any comments.

I had an Absaroka with f-holes and x-bracing for a few years and it opened up to be a great sounding mandolin. When new it sounded a little restrained but after a year or so it really came into its own with a really nice balanced tone with a full sounding low end. It was very comparable to a friend's Flatiron F and to me it sounded nicer than my d-hole Bridger which has a little more of a twang to my ear. If possible you should try to play both the f-hole and d-hole versions before you decide. Unfortunately I got into building and recently sold my old Absaroka to another friend to finance a couple more stewmac kits.. I still miss it though. Good luck! Keith

I had an Absaroka, and they are really nice instruments, especially for the money, it takes a fair bit of playing for the really nice tone to come out, they do sound good from the start.
