OK So I replaced my old bridge with a new Sullivan I marked the old bridge with scotch tape? When job was done alas I had residue from tape on the top. I was finally able to get it all off by using full strength diswaher liquid and drying witha soft cloth as I worked on the residue. How can I avoid this in the future if I ever need to remove the bridge again ? By the way Sullivan bridge did wonders http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Hi Ken:
I would not recommend Scotch tape as it has a more aggessive adhesive. Use plain masking tape. Most tape residues will clean up easily with Naptha which will not damage most finishes.

Even better than plain masking tape is painter's tape. It looks like masking tape, but it is commonly blue in color. It leaves even less residue.

CAREFULL ABOUT NAPTHA. It put a very dull place on a gibson f5l I used to own. don't know why... but it did

Scotch Drafting would work. It is a tape designed for temporary holding of drawings to drawing boards and it removes easily and cleanly. Also, before using a solvent on tape residue, I would try a small amount of mineral oil
and a soft cloth to try removing the residue. #This removes
the residue of stick on price tags, and may work on masking tape remains also
