Got to see 'em live last weekend in Memphis (Bartlett). #Great show! #Rowan did mostly his stuff - all very good. Some bluegrass, some of that Rowan psychodelic stuff (Free Mexican Airforce, etc...) #Lots of yodeling and Indian war whoops but really fun. #Tony Rice did some really cool extended breaks on several tunes.

Also got to go back stage and meet the band after the show. #Sharon Gilchrist and the bass player - Catherine?? #were both very personable. #Peter too. #Tony Rice was pretty quiet. #Tony signed a friend's guitar - I think my friend about soiled his drawers!!.

Anyway, I'd seen Peter before but had not seen Tony. #The whole deal was very cool - Peter's singing, Tony's pickin' was killer, and Sharon and Catherine were also both excellent players and singers.

See 'em if you get the chance.

and the bass player - Catherine??

From Rounder Records description:

...which finds the pair joined by bassist/vocalist Bryn Davies...

Assuming the lineup hasn't changed since the record was released anyway. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I believe Bryn quit weeks ago. I too was at the Memphis show and enjoyed it very much.
John, What mandolin was Sharon playing? It sounded good and she sure can play.

Well go figure! I'm surprised the band even bothered to stay together, I mean that Rice fellow can pick a little and Peter sings a bit, but without Bryn it'd be like having Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys without Bessie Lee Mauldin. :-)

No, apparently not. And, as fate would have it, that post was from about a month before I joined and I haven't gotten to everything prior to my sign-on date quite yet. What else have I missed? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Can you summarize?! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Kevin - as fate would have it, Sharon Gilchrist plays a Gilchrist. #She told us a story about Steve Gilchrist reshaping the neck on her mandolin in a hotel room. #She said he just spread out a towel on the floor and used a file to reshape it and then refinished the areas he'd filed on. #Pretty cool.

If one was relaying this story to Gillian Welch in an excited manner, one might have said...

"Gil, Christ! Gilchrist reshaped the neck of Gilchrist's Gilchrist!"

Bryn was a heckuva bass player.....they must not play enough gigs & she
went to a band she could both play & earn more......cause it musta been
fun playing with Tony, Peter, & Sharon, so musta been something else.
