Takamine?

Anybody ever heard about Takamine trying to develop a mandolin line? My teacher owns a small music store and is a Takamine dealer and has talked with some Takamine reps and it seems they have something in the works. The intention is to make a plug-n-play/built-in-preamp model that sounds better than what is available.

All I know is, my EG523SC,Jumbo, Maple backed guitar is enough to keep me from spending thousands for another guitar, when I'd rather put my money & time into mandolining.
