The Cafe is at the 10,000 member mark! Quite a tribute to the efforts of Scott, danb, and all others involved. #A shout of thanks should also go out to former and current sponsors and contributors. #The members also deserve some credit for the success of the sight. #My membership is #509, and could have been in the low 200's if I'd signed up when I first discovered the sight. #Wonder how many early members are left? #I know Mr. Hilburn is #7 pickinngrinnin is #4. #A few of the real early members are still here and contribute. #It would be interesting to hear from some early members. #Congrats again. #Dan

Dan,
Yes, a great deal of thanks is deserved by all that you have mentioned. I seem to remember having to re-enlist in Sept. of 2002 making that the oldest date recorded for membership. My #is 194 so not that old of a member. I'm just glad I haven't been thrown out yet!

It would be fun to have a cafe get-together/jam someplace for real, perhaps over a weekend sometime? (Now that I can fly to Ohio cheap, I'm full of ideas.)

That 'Cafe' member get together used to be called Mandofest. Nothing like having pizza with Scott, Ted, Drew, and some other mandolin player named Reischman. Now those were the days! All way out of my league but what a great time. It would be nice to something similar re-instituted, but it must take way too much work to put together the logistics and then make it happen. I have the t-shirt though! Dan

I remember the re-enlist. That is why my sign up date reflects that time period. Now that makes me wonder what my original number may have been? I thought I was early to the site. Oh to be an original member! Dan

I was here before the re-enlist of 2002 but there were many already here when I found this site. When the re-enlist came up, I must have jumped quick as I have #4 now. I've sometimes wondered who is #3 and #2. Scott, of course, is the #1 member.

This place remains one of my favorite sites on the www. I'm here most every day checking in. I've also met some interesting folks through the cafe - one of which is Adrian Minarovic. My Hogan #007 was built for me by Adrian. I met him through the cafe and he lives in Slovakia. We had been corresponding about the Mandolin for the past year and I never would have met him or had the chance to own this beautiful Mandolin if it weren't for the cafe. I've also bought and sold Mandos through the classifieds. Thanks to Scott for providing this tremendous resource. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

10K, lot of mando-likn folks out there. Can you imagine a mandomania with 10,000 pickers going at Old Joe Clark,BB or even Raw Hide? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Scott,Dan B.,Ted and all those behind the scenes do a fabulous

Plucky Plinker member 5441 here... What chord is that? It sounded awful strummed... I wonder if that means anything. In general, I would never belong to a place that would have me as a member. This is my happy exception. 10K will be quite an achievement.

And the winner is...(drumroll please) #Bing Cullen from Australia! #No prizes, just the recognition of thousands. Now we can do this again in another 5 years when we reach 20,000 members. #Dan

that is pretty funny.
I suppose the downfall of being #10,000 and after is that you are a banjo chord.

Scott Adams: ..Im in Southern Ohio...Brown County

Hey Scott - totally off topic but I' going down to the Mt. Orab library 7:00 pm tonight -- but I'm talking on Bluebirds not mandolins #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

(to non-Ohioans that is in Brown County)

I was browsing the member list, (there are several that start with Tim...). #I clicked one of these at random and noticed that their last logon was over a year ago. #It would be interesting to know how many of those 10000 have actually logged on to the board since Jan 2006 (to pick an arbitrary date). #You can sort the member list a couple of different ways but not by last logon.

This is going to be a long thread if we all put our 'cafe registration number in (I looked at mine, duh, but forgot it. . . .). #At the unofficial martin guitar forum, they also just had their 10,000th member and assigned it to Bob Shane (founding member of the Kingston Trio). #Here Mr./Ms. 10,000 is just a regular mandopicker.

So who is actually the lucky (and regular) person? #Somebody famous afterall?

f-d

p.s. that's fatt mr.-3971 dad

Yeehaw! Probably the best place on the net. Thanks Scott, and all you others. I won't start to mention because I know I'm going to leave someone out. Despite some little tiffs, which even happen between lifelong mates (!). this is my favorite place to go. It takes a wonderful community of people to make this all take place, and none of it would have been possible without the vision of Mr. Tichenor. I wonder how did all start. Some dream in the night? Just a random thought? A passion? All of the above? Whatever, I thank Scott and everyone else that's made this happen. Let's keep it going. eh?

Edit: I'm 5425. I had a Prof who thought he was clever by refering to us by our student ID numbers (our SSN at the time!) I got him back by bribing one of his grad students with chocolate covered espresso beans to get his and replied in kind one day. His face was worth the bean money!
