I prefer real notation to tab. Planning to accompany my youngest son on this locally. He's a great young singer (12). I can play the basics, but have to learn the rest of the song to accompany him. So where can I buy the mando sheets?

Being that I'm in a Led Zeppelin tribute band...I can help you out. ; ) www.zeppelinlove.com

Go to www.ultimate-guitar.com and search for battle of evermore, download the "guitar pro" version of the tab. It will provide the notation as well. Have fun!!!

So the music is free if I buy the $59 software?

I forgot about that. #You might be able to download a demo for 15 day trial. #That should be long enough to learn the song, it's not that hard.

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs....pro.htm (http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/l/led_zeppelin/the_battle_of_evermore_ver3_guitar_pro.htm)

let me know how it goes...by the way, what do you have against tab? #The song is very repititious and so just learning from the tab would quicker, wouldn't it?

Also, I see you say your sons a great young singer. I hope you don't want him to sound like Mr. Plant for after puberty!!! That may take a procedure which isn't so pleasant! (just joking)

Hi ManicMando...

I went to that site and either I'm developmentally delayed or it is hard to navigate. Where on that site is the music to this song???

My son sings Queen here. He has the solo just for: "Each morning I get up I die a little, Just can't get no relief. Take a look in the morror. Tell me what you see..." "Someone To Love" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vl6pOMjhw6o) I expect that his voice will change soon, so he might as well sing Zeppelin while he can. I learned violin first, so I just find it faster to read "shape notes" as they called them in "Walk the Line." By the way, I didn't post this, which is why you can't see him singing.

Tab, not notation:
BOE from Jeff Strawman (http://www.led-zeppelin.org/reference/songfiles/index.php?m=the_battle_of_evermore)

I don't see BOE in the TablEdit files at Mandozine.

I can print it out and mail it to you if you want?

I printed the Tab version in the mean time.

Santiago said 'I just find it faster to read "shape notes" as they called them in "Walk the Line."'

Actually, "shape notes" refers to a method of notation using squares, triangles, etc., instead of the standard round notes, to represent a "doe-re-mi" scale, so hymn singers could be on pitch & in key without instruments when singing from shape note hymnals.

Just in case you weren't aware, the quoted post seemed to use the term for standard notation.

Thanks for straightening me out MandoSquirrel. Yeah, I should have just said Standard Notation. You don't HAVE TO pay for TabEdit, but it's nice if you do.

So I now have the Guitar Pro notes (for 15 days before it disappears)and the online Tab, but the two versions are a full octave apart. Tab has it begin D7(a),A3©, E0, E0, while the sheet music has it an octave lower. Sounds to me like the higher version's more authentic. Any thoughts?

The link posted above is correct. #It looks exactly the same as the guitar pro file. #Please take it from someone who has been studying led zeppeling for the last 17 years, who plays in a zep tribute, and who only listened to zep at the exclusion of all other music for the first 5 years of his musical interests...the sheet music and tab are correct. # http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

What part makes you think it is wrong?

PS- Jimmy Page was also well know for his over dubbing and if I'm correct I do believe there are two mandolins and a guitar on that track.

The tab appears to be an Octave higher than the sheet music in some places.

In a few places there are 3 mandos.

Question about how to read that.

Are those separate parts played simultaneously? Thats the way it looks be scored as the "staffs" are attached. Or is there one part and you just play each line? So five bars of the 7-3-0-0 then five bars of the 7-37-37 part, etc.?

Yeah. It's three mandolins playing simultaneiously. I can hear the decending line in the background. LZ was into a lot of overdubbing, but mostly later in their progression. "Achilles Last Stand" comes to mind.

Ouch, well someone should write out a decent single-mando part. Anyone want to transcribe the Nancy Wilson live version?
