Just got a great deal on a used Small Dog case cover. #It came in today and I put it on my Calton Deluxe teardrop mandolin case. #It fits, but boy-oh-boy is it tight. #There's no spare fabric at all. #Good look for a shapely female, mighty dicey on the Calton. #I really just got it for when I might have to check the Calton.

How tight is too tight on these things? #Did they make a model for the non-Deluxe Calton? #Is there a size difference in the Deluxe vs. the non-Deluxe Calton? #

I'm leaving the Small Dog on the case for a few days to see if it 'stretches' out a bit. #It seems you want a good fit, but this is a really, really close fit. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

Experience anyone?

i don't forsee anything bad happening. better tight than loose. (that's what she said).

generalizing to laying up fibreglas in negative mold:
Non deluxe Cal case would be no smaller. the extra layer of FG is laid up in the same mold. its on top of the rest of the stuff, so it's inside.

the Cal 'A' case mold [@29.5x12x5"] perhaps smaller, (measured my case)
A different cover for each is made? you got the other one?

rick, i have one of those for my a shaped tkl case, one for a square tkl case and one for my calton as well as assorted sizes for various guitar cases. they are all snug. not splitting the seams, but snug. they are designed that way.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll bring it to Kamp Week 2. If more experienced owners think it is too tight, I'll check it against an A model Calton. I got it for a good enough price that I can't really go wrong with it. When I checked it today, it seemed to go on much easier. I don't think it had been on a case in awhile, so maybe it's like wearing a new pair of loafers and will fit better after using it some.

I don't know how relevant it is, but when I put a new Colorado Case Cover on my Calton (for F-style), it too was very tight but now it is loose enough to go on easily but still fits fairly snugly.

THAT'S exactly what I wanted to hear. Thanks!

Regarding Small Dog Covers and calton cases, this information is on their web site:

83CM1 Calton "Teardrop" mandolin case cover. 29 ¾ x 14 x 5 ¼ $110.00
83CM2 Calton "Teardrop" mandolin Model 2000 UP *** NEW ITEM *** 30 x 12 ¾ x 5 $110.00

It would appear they have two different sizes.

I own, or have owned several small dog case covers : 3-Calton Mandolin, 1-TKL mandolin, 1-000 size Calton Guitar , 1-0 size Calton Guitar, 1-TKL Dreadnaught Guitar, and 1-Gibson F2 mandolin. They all fit snug, I love them, not only do they keep your case in new condition, they eliminate all the damage that the case can do to walls, furniture, car interior, etc.

They did sell the company to Colorado Case Company, and are in the process of moving inventory etc. to colorado. Here is the text from an email I received from them recently:
