Anyone else planning on going to the spring Bluegrass fair in Columbus Ohio this week end? can you say Rice Unit...
There is no tent camping but planty of RV and Pop up sites, blacktop only. I'll be roaming the jam circles with my BRW, and few friends. Provided there is a lot of lot picking

Are they gonna serve beer at this thing? The little lady needs to know whether or not to get the flask ready. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/coffee.gif
Should be a good time one way or another!

Well I got some pictures, I'll post a link later tonight. A freind of mine got some good ones too so I'll try and get those as well. He sent his wife up front to get some of TRU.
It was really really long. I was there from 12:00 till 10:30 give or take. And by the end I was wiped out for sure.
The highlight for me and my crew #was during Tony's set when he brought out Vasser, then brought out JD Crowe, then brought out Peter Rowan. They all played Muleskinner Blues which was worth the price of addmission alone. Then they all did a fiddle tune which reminded of me of Daybreak in Dixie but I'm not sure exactly what it was.
LRB was solid. Dave Parmley's fiddler is awesome. Mike Snider was funny and broke up the bluegrass with some old timey stuff. Pete Rowan was mesmerizing. Cowan's sound was more than little lack luster in terms of sound quality. I couldn't hear Wayne at all, they just couldn't get it right. JD Crowe and his banjo sounded as good as ever, outsatanding tone coming from that guy simply amazing! Tony Rice and the Unit were awesome as always. And with all the guest appearances you could tell were having a good time. Rickie Simpkins mando sounded great. (anyone know what kind it is? it is missing it's lower point? and has a Monte type scroll?) The Seldom scene sounded good, I think their mando player was playing a Nugget from what I could tell, and it sounded great. Patty Loveless was normal, and I left mid way through I hope I didn't a big jam at the end???
after all that I was tired, (not to mention I ran a 5k that morning) I hope next year if they do it they have something else to do or another stage or some acts on friday or something to break it up because sitting there in the dark for 10 hours is hard, even with all the awesome music

..thanks Ethan for the info. Im suprised that Crowe was even there...he was down with pneumonia just last week....glad to see he made it. If it was Lou Reid playing mando with the Seldom Scene..he was more than likely playing a Red Diamond. Im sorry to hear that John Cowan didnt quite get it together....Im sure once they do they will be worth the ticket price. Its always a pleasure to see Vassar with T. Rice...Rice calls Vassar his favorite musician....all in all it sounds like you had a good time...Im glad. Wish I could have been there. Parmely's fiddle player is Steve Day....a good friend of mine. We played alot of shows together with Gary Brewer. I know what kind of mando Simpkins was playin but I cant think of it right now...he also has a 10 stringer made by the same luthier....
