Just thought I'd pass on the word that I just updated Josh's site (http://www.joshpinkham.com). #The most significant new thing is an expanded photo gallery (thanks so much to those who contributed pics, keep em coming if you have more http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif )

Enjoy!

just watched the josh clips from mandofest. jealousy is raging inside me. man is he good and on the mandola as well- its not just the talent to play quickly and within the tune. it is his feel for the music. the piece with his dad and mike m. is so incredible, his picking exudes feeling and is unique sounding. wow!

Heather, good work. I hope to have more Mandofest pix coming in the near future from the folks at Mass Street Music. Did you happen to see these (http://imageevent.com/lpenning/mandofest204) from my friend Larry? You'd be welcome to use those.

Heather, Larry is a long-time mando pal locally. I'll drop him a note and ask his permission and get back to you. I know a little about your schedule and it seems you have plenty going on.

Actually, his main axe is currently a Gibson F5V (varnish fern). Great mandolin.

2 weeks ago at Mandofest he didn't have a Gibson anywhere in sight. He didn't play a Gibson on stage Friday night, Saturday morning or afternoon at Mass St. Music, or at the jam after the Saturday night concert. #He played his Skip Kelly the entire time other than for about 10 minutes saturday afternoon when he played his Triggs. He did try a whole bunch of other peoples mandolins. Maybe he loves his seldom scene Gibson so much that he won't take it out of the house. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

No. He just needed some adjustments on it. It has been done and I would expect to see him using it again.

hmmm ... a couple of posts here sound a little possessive to me.

Hope you’re keeping your head about all this Josh. Sponsors are great, but they don’t own you. Play the instrument that you love to play.

I’m feeling a little sorry for Mr. Triggs and Mr. Kelly, both who are obviously being overshadowed by the big “G”. I’m sure they put a lot of heart into the mando’s they made for Josh.

Sponsors that have to tell everyone what brand of instrument this young fellow is using as his “main axe” not at all impress me. Jeez … he’s just a kid … but he can also speak for himself here, which he has been pretty good at doing so far.

What’s “G” doing with the mando anyway? Putting some special touches on it so it sounds better than usual? Hey, I have an idea … why don’t you put some special strings on it that nobody else can buy!

</rant>

Nothing personal Big Joe … you guys really do make great mandolins … I’ll probably never own one because they are just to darn expensive for me. I just can’t handle the commercial handling and marketing of people (specifically a young man) to sell product. No explanation necessary, I know it’s just the way it is these days. Hope you all get filthy rich off it all.

I do not think that Gibson prices are that outrageous. You get what you pay for, and every Fern and Master Model that I have played is worth every penny they were asking for them. And if I built a Mando and Josh played it I would tell everyone too.

Mandorado, I don't think anyone twisted Josh's arm to make him take all these mandolins he's been given. Do you think Triggs and Kelly should be able to give Josh an endorsement mandolin and not Gibson? I think the illusion you're portraying here that the "little" guys (Triggs and Kelly) are the guys getting hurt by the big bully, Gibson is hypocritical. The reality is all three are doing the exact same thing, sponsoring a young talent with their brand of instrument.
