I have a 1920 F4 which I bought in London three years ago and the original case has LONNIE in italic on the outside. Just wondered if anyone knew who may have owned this mandolin originally. Serial number 58564 has been overwritten in ink (presume the pencil one was the same) and the F4 has also been overwritten in ink.

If anyone knows please reply.

Many thanks indeed

Suppose it could be the late Mr Donnigan but I thought he only played the guitar and banjo. How you'd prove it I've no idea. Have you asked the shop?

58565 and 58567 are in the Archive. As you bought it in London you might want to talk to DanB, he may know some history.

If you are talking about Lonnie Donegan, the British skiffle musician, he was born in 1931. Therefore, he could not have been the 'original' owner of a 1920's instrument. I can not seem to find any tracks where he played other than banjo, washboard, a tea-chest bass, and guitar.

I think the name 'Lonnie' is a relatively common 'British English' name of a certain era. It could be either a first or last name.
There are so many choices as to your Lonnie.
