View Full Version : Tailpiece buzzing problem
So, my first mando and my first problem - buzzing tailpiece, or rather the cover for the tailpiece. When I remove it, the buzzing disappears but it doesn't look too nice. Any tips on how to deal with this?

Replace it with a solid tailpiece. I have one in my mandolin case which I am going to put on as soon as my expensive TI strings need to be replaced. I have had that cover pop off twice at festivals and been lucky enough to get it back each time. Now I just leave it off. You're right, it looks terrible, but it won't be there much longer. It's a really chincy design anyway. I can't believe they are standard equipment on instruments which cost thousands of dollars.

I too have gone to the solid one-piece (Weber) tailpiece. However, if you choose not to make that modification, ensure that the two pieces of your tailpiece fit together firmly, then add a piece of felt or leather under the removable piece. The rattle ought to vanish.
Sometimes the string(s) will just barely contact the leading edge of the tailpiece creating a buzz, so some minor adjustment of angle of that edge might be necessary.
Peace, Mooh.
