Hi all, just revisited a recording of the Johnsone Mtn. Boys doing Blue Diamond Mine. #Love that tune and have often thought about trying to work it up.
Any of you play it? #Where did you learn it? #What key? #
I think I have heard a number of other verses sung than the ones on the JMB recording.
Thanks,
Z

I've been playing it in C. It's a killer tune.
I like this version... (http://www.dasspunk.com/music/uploads/Blue_Diamond_Mines.mp3)

Anyone from (or who has lived in) a mining town realizes they all go bust sooner or later. #The closing of the 'Blue Diamond Mine' captures that sadness with powerful poignancy. #
I like the Seldom Scene's version best, although Tim O'Brien's version (on the link above) was good too.

Hey, thanks you two for the responses. #That linked version is cool, I like how it's sort of "wobbly".
The JMB version (in G) is nice, if a little too polished. #But the tempo is nice and slow and the 5-string parts are great.
I've always liked mining songs (just love Dark as a Dungeon). #Maybe 'cause I'm tained in geology (even though I don't really know the 1st thing about mining).
Thanks again,
Z

dasspunk:
The SS version is on their 'Dream Scene' album (the second last cut).
