Hi, New to the site... hello.

I'm looking for some information regarding a specific mandolin. It's an Army & Navy model (with a bolt a neck, I think)

Can anyone give any details regarding the model no./ availablity / top material... costs etc.

Has anyone come accross one ? are they a good player ??

Thanks in advance for any information received.

cheers
Owen

Appears to be just a basic Asian built A model for the European market. Since TAMCO doesn't even carry it, it's probably not worth the money.

The Tanglewood mandolin linked to is not an Army/Navy style.

Yeah, but I couldn't find any references to such a beast. Not that it was an intensive all-encompassing search, just a few minutes on Google and Ebay.

it is likely built in the same place as the Ozark and Ashbury versions:

http://www.mevtaylors.co.uk/mandolin3.htm

cheap pacrim copies. build quality and playability are ok (especially after set up), but the thickness of finish means tone and volume are not best quality.

if it is the same as these, then the top, which used to be laminate on old models, is now solid spruce.

i've played a couple of these in stores and they are probably fine for the money.

I guess you are right about TAMCO not carrying the Tanglewood mandolin but they do caryy Tanglewood guitars.
You might call and find out why they don't also carry the mandolins.

I was able to find the Tanglewood website, but no Army/Nave Flat tops there.

Hope this helps.

The Kentucky line probably covers the low end range just fine.

I haven't seen the Tanglewood mandolins but as Jeff says, Kentucky cover that price range.
