This mandolin came into my shop recently.
Obviously, it would need a little work to get it into good playing order.

Here's a close up of the label on the head stock. Anyone have any information about this maker?

If I recall the company's slogan was "If it's a good mandolin, it's a Merkle". Most folks just noodled around on this model.

I saw one just like that recently at the Museum of Musical Instruments. It was for sale for $4,500,000. Of course, it was all original. ...

Not to alarm you, but you should keep it in your Strad vault while it's in your shop, and make sure your insurance is up to date. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

I wouldn't play one of these - I'm anti-pasta!

This looks like the one Aldo Marinara played in Lady And the Tramp. You've definitely got a "one-of" there! (At least I hope so...)

I heard those are Chinese made and imported by Marco Polo, Inc.

Oh man, and I thought Spaghetti grew on trees . http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
Was "spaghetti" the particular model? Did they have an F hole model called "rigatoni", or a "manicotti" mandola?

I recall seeing an ad in the NY subway when I was a kid: 'Merkle toni suona buoni.'
But I still get things all mixed up.
(Looks like a Regal to me.....)

Take a stroll in the Wayback machine for context (http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/showthread.php?p=376837&highlight=spaghetti#post376837) on the Merkel.

I take it the ripples on the Lasagna, being evenly-spaced, make for some interesting modal combinations when noted?

The label closely resemles the Regal brand. I bet this is a private labeled Regal.

I heard from an unnamed source, that this was actually a 60 year old insturment that never should have left the Merkel shop, thus no serial number. It was given to Milla Jojovich's paternal grandmother, Mojo Jojovich, who first taught the young Mila how to play.
