Sounds good to me. Frank V. is one of my favorites-- great technical skills, and a true master of expressive force. I'm hoping he's taking the place of the flute player and not Enrique. Fat chance, I guess.

Does this mean Enrique is out? A jazz/gypsie guitarist would bring a nice change. I'm tired of the choro feel they've had for a long time.

Frank is an unbelievable, versatile guitar player and will be a great addition to DGQ, but to me he still sounds like an american playing gypsy guitar. Now Stefan Wrambel,The Rosenbergs or Berele, they got it happening from their toenails to their eyebrows.
I personaly enjoy the flute playing on the latest Dawg recording very much. I think it was some of Matt Eikle's?? most inspired playing. Not trying to be disagreeable, just my humble opinion...Gary

darn those Americans who play gypsy jazz...just who do they think they are? And sounding like themselves...unheard of in my neck of the world! Duh...its music, to be played how ya like. Maybe he'll start sounding like a Dawg now. Maybe some gyspy dude told him "now go out and get your own style" or something really corny like that. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Enrique doesnt sound very Choro'ish to me but I do like his playing a lot.

I saw that & wondered if it was just for a tour, or two.....or more? Frank is "HOT" and Grisman has been quite a talent scout over the years.....
Looks like 2 of the gigs are close to me here in the Bay Area, I look forward to checking this version of the DGQ out! Dawg on!!!

You lucky Dawg!!

I personally love Enrique's playing, so emotional and expressive, love it.
But here goes another chapter of the DGQ.

Yes, I think Frank would be a great fit to DGQ but why is Enrique leaving? What is going to happen to MaMaVig? Dumpin' Masefield for Grisman......

Frank is a lot more than a Gypsy style player, he is pretty versatile and can really play most anything jazzwise. IIRC he showed up and jammed all night long with my old jazz guitar mentor/teacher/humbler Buzz a while back. They jammed just two guitars all night long, and as I recall there wasn't much in the way of Gypsy at all, just mind bending harmonic richness, and classic tunes.

It was at a Japanese restaraunt and there were like 6 people (including my wife and me) there to see them. Pretty cool really...

I really admire Frank's playing and have no doubt he will fit in beautifully. I've often wondered how Bireli or Wauwau Adler would sound with Grisman's stuff.
