Hi, everyone! What sort of stands are out there for bowlback mandolins? The one I use for my Mid-Mo doesn't work because of the bowl, and a regular guitar stand is too tall. (The U of it lands right among the tuning pegs.) Any advice?

I have a few of these Ingles violin stands and I find them very suitable for bowlbacks:

They are adjustable, stable and secure. A reasonable price, I think, as well.

You could use a large wooden bowl with some felt glued in it for a stand/holder.

Or, you could modify a Hercules stand with a length of pipe insulation.

They also make a stand-off attachement, but imo this works better.

String Swing are squeezable in width, I would suggest a variation, for violin, that clips to the front edge of the music stand desk., or one that would clamp to the shaft of mic stand or music stand.. but they are not sticking out far from the tube they are clamped onto. Bowl Bumper [pipe insulation] would fix contact point.

I think if some person with mechanical talent could come up with THE bowlback stand - some money could be made.

When I play my bowlback I often like to switch back and forth to my other mandolins or to my fiddle, and there is nowhere to put my bowlback. Everything made for an A or F mandolin, or a guitar or fiddle, really is a compromise.

I would love something like an infant's bassonette at a steep angle, with a notch in one end for the neck - but thats just me.

And I can't build anything. The most dangerous thing in the world is to give me a hand tool.
