Hope I'm not peeing in anyone's Cheerio's here, but I see a Daley Classic up for auction on ebay. The seller is a Cafe member. Here's the link. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120099429711

If I didn't have a Daley in the works as we speak, I'd be buying this one. #My new ad topped Daley should be ready by the end of April. #Can't wait.

Rick - you may be right! I think the fact that the seller has no feedback may have scared some off (for good reason in some cases). I thought I saw that mandolin for sale at another time. Has it been for sale here before. Anyone know the seller?

yeah, it's dochardee. Lives in Florida, I believe. I PM'd him and though I'm not at liberty to say why he's selling, it is not because he is unhappy with the mandolin. Told me he'd be getting another when the timing is right. You figure it out from there.

BTW, it was for sale here in the Classifieds first.

And FWIW, although my wife knows I'm getting an expensive mandolin, if she knew how expensive, Mama would be applying pressure on me to sell something off as well. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Shipping and return fees is a bit high! Could be a good deal, but $107 for shipping is too high.

i bet reserve is a least 6000 - wish it didn't have gold hardware...

Tom, you must not have shipped a mandolin recently. I think it's too low.

Interesting auction. It went for $5701 and appears that it met the reserve. The winning bidder bid $5250 (or somethng near that) with seven seconds left (didn't meet reserve) and bid again with one second left with the winning bid. Probably had to be using some sort of "sniping" program, or had several screens setup with various bids and was lucky to get a bid in that met reserve just in time. I bid with about 30 seconds left and it didn't even register my bid, for some reason. Someone probably got a pretty decent buy!

your bid doesn't register if an earlier bidder bids the same thing as you. often a matter of seconds.

probably a good deal as they seem to be going more close to 6000 used. i don't really care for this aesthetically as compared to the other daleys that have come up lately - perhaps that held up some bidders.

The Daley did go for $5701 and met the reserve. Of course, nothing is really sold until payment is received, the buyer takes a look and is happy with the purchase.

I've been fighting nerve injury in my left hand for some time now, looks like I now have a permanent deficit in the ulnar nerve affecting my little and ring finger. I can't make a mandolin do what I want it to do anymore, four finger chop chords are out of the question. I can't really enjoy the Daley anymore, so I sold it to help out with the bills. Pedal steel was my main instrument for years until I got the bluegrass bug. I can still handle a steel bar OK, so looks like I may be taking up reso guitar.

I went to eBay because I wasn't getting any offers from my classifed ad here. Tom, shipping a mandolin 2nd day air with full insurance is expensive. I would not be surprised if the shipping calculator that eBay has built into checkout low balls the cost, we'll see when I ship.

Real darn decent buy. #Sim gets 6250 now on the base Classic model. #Plus, there are at least 670 dollars in upgrades PLUS the Waverlies, add another 400, that comes to a new price of 6920 plus around 400 so at minimum a base price of 7320. #Figure that he put a deposit down at the old price and it probably cost him close to 6800 dollars. #Buyers pays 5701. #Shipping probably washes out if you were to buy a new one from Sim.

It appears this buyer got a new Daley for $1000 discount and skips a two year wait. I'll wager he won't be sending it back.

Tom Ellis told me you should keep your insurance at $4999. $5k and over kicks into a higher rate.

Mike:

Sorry about your fingers! I know you hate to get rid of the Daley, but at least you have the pedal steel to fall back on. Good luck on the sale - and hopefully the doctors are wrong on your finger ailment.
