Hi everyone, This is my first post. I hope I'm doing this right. I received a Victoria by B&J NY mandolin and was wondering what it's worth (and how old it might be). I tried google with no luck. It's in perfect condition. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Vourlaki

Mine's a flat back. Very nice instruments, but I can't really help you with market value, only that mine is too valuable to me to care what anyone would pay, they CAN'T have it!

B&J is Buegeleisen & Jacobson. I believe that they were primarily distributors of instruments and these were likely made to be marketed under their name.
Like many US-made bowlbacks, this was prob made around the turn of the last century, possibly into the teens.
Might help if you posted another photo of the front.
I would not count on it being extremely valuable tho it could be a nice playing instrument esp if it was cared for.

Just to show that everything comes around again: "Buegeleisen" is German for "Flatiron"...

amazing.
Forgive me for flogging what most folks might see as a dead horse, but please do not use anything but the lightest mandolin strings on old bowlbacks. GHS Classical, maybe Martin, etc. Max for D string should be about 0.024"; G string around 0.034". ou'll probably have to special order them from someplace like JustStrings.
