I realize this topic has been covered before... but I was wondering if anyone could provide feedback. I have a Kentucky 380S which I have been playing for several months ($300 solid body). Although I think it's great for the price it doesn't perform as well as upper end manolins I've played (just to give you an idea I've been playing the guitar for several years and have a Martin and a Gibson). My mandolin teacher also wants me to get a better instrument. I want to upgrade but of course price is a factor so I'm trying to stay at about $1000. After talking to several people I have been learning towards a Breedlove Quartz with F holes (about $900-1000 on-line). Has anyone had any experience with this brand or instrument? Do you have any other recommendations.

Any advice or comments would be highly appreciated!!

Thanks.

Get a Pomeroy A5 ... will be the best money you ever spent.
Pomeroy Webpage (http://pomeroyinstruments.com)
And you will probably never want to sell it.

I think all the possibilites mentioned are good choices. My personal choice in that price range would be a new Rigel A Natural or a used A+.

Gibson A-9 or I saw a real nice Flatiron A in the classifieds,,both were less than 1K and both would keep you happy for years. (and always will be worth at LEAST what you paid for them)

What about a used Japanese Kentucky...say KM-750?
