F4 bridges

Interested in any comments re F4 bridges. I have a 1920 F4 which is absolutely great condition but the treble strings have a bell like tone even when I put on 12s and 16s gauges. I had the same situation with a 1915 F4 which was a much lighter weight instrument. This is with an ebony adjustable bridge. Tried the one piece ebony and still the same. My feeling is that it's the thin top of the bridge and the ebony which is causing this and I am going to try a rosewood top with a "fatter" top to try and get a warmer sound.
