I yielded to the urge to play "Camarillo Brillo" on my mando last night, and discovered a nice tab for guitar,
(www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/z/zappa_frank/camarillo_brillo_tab.htm)
easily adapted to mando. #Not only is it fun to play and lends itself quite well to BG chopping, it is a great chop/barre chord exercise: #5 different shapes of movable chords (if you use the B chord at the 4th fret) at an up tempo beat. #If I can learn to hit these changes cleanly at tempo, I'll be Mr. Rhythm Man on the mando.
Anybody else have any experience to share with bluegrassing St. Francis? #

you can just play mando without bluegrassing it. but if you choose to do so, i am sure dr. zappa would not have minded. he was a fan of experimentation with music if i'm not mistaken.:;):

Ira,
Having seen a still photo taken of Zappa from his performance on the Tonight Show when he played a bicycle by plinking the spokes and blowing through the handlebars, I think you're right.

I always wanted to update "My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Momma" to "My Mando Wants to Kill Your Momma," but I never got around to it! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

There is mando on "The Yellow Shark" CD of the Ensemble Modern, which was his dream come true- an orchestra who really devoted themselves to playing his music accurately and expressively. He had some bad experiences with major orchestras.
I am a big fan and have been since I was 11 or so, when the Live at the Fillmore record came out. On the "Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar" set, he does a duo w/ Jean-Luc Ponty and plays a bouzouki through a phase shifter...and before he died he mentioned he liked any good music and expressed appreciation for bluegrass flatpicking, which surprised and delighted me!

peaches in regallia would sound awesome on mandolin, as would zoot allures or anything off of his "guitar" album.
