Anyone know where to find a serial number reference for Weymann banjo mandolins? #A friend has one and would like to know when it was made. #Thanks.

Seek and ye shall find (http://www.whitetreeaz.com/vintage/banjomfg.htm#WEYMANN)

Of course, this starts sort of late IMHO. They were actually in business earlier but instruments made by (or for) them were prob from the 1920s.

No doubt you have found your number already, but for future reference, try a search for "Mugwumps"; it is a great source for vintage banjo enthusiasts.

This one appears to be a bit older, since the serial # is in the 27 thousands.

Not so sure about that. It would be strange to find many vintage banjo mandolins made after the 1940s. More likely either the numbering system was different for the mandolin-banjos or Weymann changed their serial number systems from time to time.

Well, it's certainly possible that Weymann used a different serial # sequence for banjo mandos than for other banjos, but the chart shows banjos for the year 1924 starting at 34000, and the banjo mandolin in question has a serial # 27734, so it's apparently pre-1924.

Whoops! I read your post too fast... you are correct that it would be pre-1924 which makes more sense.
