Any builders in Northern VA (DC Metro area)...

I'm in Reston and looking for wood suppliers. Bruce turned me on to woodfinder and I've been to the closest ones listed there (Dunlap and Vienna Hardwoods.) I was able to get some nice birdseye for necks at Dunlap but neither of these actually specialize or carry much in the way of Luthier wood.

Where do you buy your wood and tools locally?

Thanks,
Rob

Our very own Luthier, Don, I believe is in West Virginia (which would still be part of Virginia save for the War Between the States). His website is http://mywebpage.netscape.com/kawalekd/homepage/ . He prepared some wood for me and it was superb until UPS got a hold of it. He's also a very nice guy and very helpful.

"#I was able to get some nice birdseye for necks at Dunlap but neither of these actually specialize or carry much in the way of Luthier wood."

When it comes to F5 backs, necks and side material, "luthier wood" can be obtained from any number of sources--mills, hardwood dealers, etc.
This is true especially on the East Coast, where maple is common, and figured maple is available from a variety of sources...

Topwood is another story, however.
Wood for tops can be found in lumber, but in order to obtain top-grade material with no run-out, wood should be milled specifically for instruments.

Hey Don!

That might just work...how far are you from Charles Town driving time wise?

Thanks,
Rob
