Birmingham has a great old time and bluegrass scene. It is the home of "Red Mountain White Trash" and "Vulcan's Britches" two fine, fine old-time groups. You should visit:
FRETTED INSTRUMENTS OF HOMEWOOD. 2906 LINDEN AVE, BIRMINGHAM, AL 35209. Phone: (205) 879-6489
Herb Trotman, the owner, is a really, really great guy. He let me play his Gilchrist and rented me an F9 for a jam! Woohoo! There is also a good CD store a few blocks from Herb's store. They have some good old-time and bluegrass stuff. I can't remember the name of it, but Herb will know.
There is also a great private old-time jam in B'ham on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. If you are interested, send me a PM.

Just got back. B-ham was great! Was hot. I went to Fretted Instruments....great store. Really nice people. I played a Collins that was not bad at all. Also had a Lawson model.....since I live in Nashville, I didnt play it. I can play one of those just about any day, thanks to charlie and big joe! If anyone else gets down that way, go check them out.
