Bates Motel, exactly. Just a comment on passing fashions. Five years ago black buttons were only found on really cheap old instruments. Now they're "in" and everyone wants them. I do actually like them in certain instances and have engaged John Sullivan to make some for some of my clients. They're turning up more readily now.

The original Bates Motel is here in Santa Cruz. Hitchcock lived here for many years. I don't think he played mandolin.

"I don't think he played mandolin."

Paul, I don't think Hitchcock ever played anything, but he did make cameo appearances in 37 of his 53 films. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

If those Schallers with ebony buttons are on your Sullivan, John made the buttons. I've bought them from him in the past. A marvelous mandolin maker.

You snip or shatter and destroy the old one to get them off. The new ones are glued to a simple round shaft.
