I've seen a lot on this board lately about Gibson, Weber, Montelone and other high end mando's. I'm interested in what brands the top mandonlin players use. Can a few of ya'll name the player and the brand of mando you know they are #currently playing now. Just wondering.

No, Sam doesn't put tape on his headstock. That's a bow-tie.

the story I heard is Sam was playing a gig with Edgar Meyer, who does quite a bit of classical music, so Sam wanted to "dress up" Hoss a bit. Hence, the bowtie.

Bill Powers [Sweet Sunny South] plays a Bretrup F5
Rich Zimmerman plays Nugget A5 #239
Tim O'Brien plays a Nugget A5 #2?

Kevin Prater was here in Copenhagen with James King last November and was raving about a new Gibson, not sure of the model. Would expect he still has it.

Got to hear Hickory Project and jam some with Anthony Hannigan over the weekend over in Fredericia, Denmark. Talk about a humbling experience! But he gave all of us a lot of really good pointers at the workshop, and was really helpful and encouraging. He and the band are really a great bunch of people, and we all had a wonderful time.

We had him surrounded - 4 Flatbush mandolins and 2 Flatbush guitars!

Jeff Parker from the Lonesome River Band plays a Gibson "Adam Steffey" model and a Gibson F-12. On their latest album "Window of Time" he plays his F-12 but on their new album that will be coming out soon hopefully he plays his "Steffey".

He's got a Triggs but the Kelly is about all you'll ever catch him playing.

She may own a Gibson but she used to always use a Sargent and is now playing a Smith Creek. She also told me a couple of weeks ago that she was working an endorsement deal whereby Samick was going to make a Rhonda Vincent model and sell them at Walmart.

I kid you not. She actually seemed pretty proud of the whole deal. I guess she must have gotten used to seeing her face on the Walmart shelves back when they were selling those packages of Martha White Blueberry muffin mix. #
