Does anyone out there know who recorded Low And Lonely in a bluegrass style? I think Roy Acuff wrote it and recorded it but I would like to know if anyone recorded it with a complete bluegrass band...Thanks....Willie http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

The Bluegrass Cardinals did a version. Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/Fifty-Years-Bluegrass-Hits-Vol/dp/B0000010UW) is selling a compilation which has it .

I found this, so Skaggs also recorded it, but I suspect on his country stuff of the time.

LOW AND LONELY
(Floyd Jenkins [aka Fred Rose])
Roy Acuff - 1943
Ernest Tubb - 1944
Ramblin' Jack Eliott - 1962
The Louvin Brothers - 1967
Ricky Scaggs - 1981

The Skaggs version is pretty good, off his first commercial country project (on Epic) "Waitin' For The Sun To Shine" in 1981. This has been re-issued as a double CD with the second project "Highways and Heartaches" on this imported CD (http://www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/music/pid/6943745/a/Waitin'+For+The+Sun+To+Shine%2FHighways+And+Hearta ches.htm). This is good stuff, with Bobby Hicks playing some nice swinging fiddle, and tasteful electric guitar and steel. Not BG but I feel this is where Ricky really shone, as a band leader.

I do believe the definetive bluegrass version of this song was first performed for "Aunt Bee" by Brisco Darling backed up by his boys in early 60's.

The Wilders Website (http://www.wilderscountry.com/) did a pretty good version of it on their first CD.

Thanks folks...I was asking for a friend, I always thought Acuff wrote it but some say he wasn`t bluegrass so he was wondering if he could find a "bluegrass" recording of it...I must admit it was the first song that I attempted to play lead on on a mandolin after years of playing lead guitar for some ccountry (hillbilly)bands...`til later....Willie
