Seems to be a noticeable increase in non-mandolin related threads started in the past three days and I've just deleted another one this a.m.. I don't know if this is just a coincidence but it needs to stop. There are clear guidelines and they should be reviewed by everyone who is a member. Please don't assume you know the guidelines for this message board because you've posted previously on this board or on other internet message boards on the web. There are specific reasons behind the way things are set to operate here. No one is charged a fee to post here so all I'm asking is for your cooperation.

Board guidelines (http://www.mandolincafe.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST&f=23&t=13100)

From the guidelines:

· Topics started specifically for the purpose of discussing religion, politics or sex is prohibited. Posts or threads deemed inappropriate or unrelated to our subject matter are subject to immediate removal at the discretion of the board owner.

I realize there are a lot of strong opinions about politics, the war, job outsourcing and the economy right now, but this is not the place to discuss them. It would really help if the membership at large would assist in this process. Right now I'm in the midst of organizing Mandofest and don't have time to monitor this for the next few days.

For the sake of the larger community that has mandolins as their primary interest please assist by reviewing the guidelines and doing your part to keep this the focus of this site.

Scott, have you ever thought of opening an "off-topic" category? Guys start to develop friendships on a cite like this and want to talk about "the rest of life." Shooters.com used to have one called "Crack Pot!" Another really popular category on bikeforums.net, too. Anyway, I agree that off-topic threads are annoying, but this might provide a place to build a richer community. For what it's worth...

Did this briefly in September 2002 for a couple of months and quickly realized it was one of the biggest mistakes ever made in the overall design of this site.

Scott : I absolutely agree - thanks for maintaining the Cafe. As I understand it.., this Board is (a)/ A m-a-n-d-o-l-i-n related site, and, (b) discussions RELATED to this instrument(i.e. the instrument, construction, reviews, genres that include this instrument, artists/performers, techniques etc...) - Let's keep it that way (I vote NO! to a separate "what-bugs-you-about-the-world" section). I promise to abide by the above.. - Again.., thanks. Regards. Moose. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

You know, you/us/we folks can always start a Yahoo Group for off-topic discussion. That way it stays off the Cafe, but still gives folks from here a place to talk about other stuff non-mando related.
