Hi Again!
It's hard to believe that 188 people looked at my first set of pictures and not one person commented! Being hard to discourage...I'm forging on with another set! I will start with Big Joe again. He's the nicest guy you will ever meet! Here he is with his mandolin again...this time a front view of his mandolin. Also shown are a few 'pickers' in the Gibson Booth.

Here is a guy we really like and respect. He is Bill Yates (I know you knew that!). He used to perform with the Counry Gentlemen. The good news is that he is going back on the road and he has a new cd called "The Country Gentlemen Tribute". It will be great to see him perform again.

I forgot to tell you the guy with Bill Yates (above) is my husband, Ed.

Here is the Silver Angel Booth..Beautiful, as always.

I see Ken Ratcliff on the right side of the Silver Angel booth. Boy - the back of that mandolin with the angel on it - sure looks like she's flying into the clouds, doesn't it? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Hi,

Even more so when you see it in person! It's truly beautiful. We are off to a bluegrass show now...there's no rest when you are in Nashville! I have some great picker pictures. I'll try to pst them again when we get home.

Hi,

We're back from a marvelous bluegrass performance. It was in a place caled Larry's Garage. http://www.larrysgrandolegarage.homestead.com/bluegrassmusic.html
This tells how it came to be and it's a wonderful story.

I'm going to attempt again to post a few pictures. It amazes me that I posted so many, then, all of a sudden, it doesn't work. I'll keep trying!

We may pop back into SPGMA tomorrow, where I'll try to get the information on Joe's mandolin. Joe, if you are reading this, please throw in a quick comment!

Here's another try at my pictures:

The mandolin I'm holding is "Blondie". It is a one of a kind MM. It is antique blonde, fern headstock, tortoise binding, no f/b inlay and the only X braced F5 Gibson. It looks great, and sounds even better! It is also the very last mandolin signed by Charlie Derrington when he was at OAI.

I will comment, lots of great pictures, thanks for sending them, as some of us would never be able to be there.

Joe, Joe, Joe; have you forgotten the Gibson F5-X mandolins that were built in Montana in '96? I recall Greg Boyd offering a couple of them back in '03 for $4,800 each. How many were built and were they very close to a Flatiron F5 Master Model?

Thanks, Darryl,

I really appreciate your comment!

ps...Here's what our campsite looked like this morning! It's the first snow we have ever encountered in Nashville....but we have so much fun here, it's worth it. We will head south in a few weeks.

Dorothy - thanks for all the pictures. I especially like the one of your campsite with the snow! Here in West Michigan this morning, it's -8 degrees, we had blizzard warnings over the weekend, and there is 16+ inches of snow on my picnic table!
Your campsite looks so peaceful compared to around here!
Glad you enjoyed SPBGMA! Thanks again for all the great candid photos!

Hi Mark,

It's still cold here, but the snow is gone. we will soon be heading for Texas and we hope to find a nice little spot to settle down in for awhile. We'll be anywhere from Corpus Christi to Mission, TX. Anyone know a place to jam in that area? It's harder to find bluegrass in TX then it is in Nashville!
Stay warm!

Love seeing the pix with all the young people in them keeping up the tradition, and making their own. That bodes well for the future of bluegrass!
