View Full Version : Has midmo re-surfaced as mississippi mud?
I walked into my local mando store and saw what looked like a couple of new MidMo's hanging on the wall. When I looked more closely, I noticed that the body shape and headstock were just a bit different, and they were labelled "Mississippi Mud".
What gives here? Has MidMo been ressurected under a different name?

Are you perhaps mis-remembering what you read on the label? They are back up and running as the Big Muddy Mandolin Company.
Thanks to an instrument swap with another Cafe member, I'm picking on a wonderful Big Muddy Mandola ( Thanks Steve! ).
That's close enough for me. I could have mis-remembered it, but (of course) I still remember seeing "Mississippi Mud". I'll check my memory next time I'm in my local mando store (probably tomorrow).

It is okay to confuse a mandolin with another good hobby ... gulping Mississippi Mud, that nice pilsner/porter from its replica jug.
If it is Big Muddy, what did you notice was different from Mid-Mo? The one I have has the exact same body and headstock (minus burned-in logo on the left side); even the label is practically the same.
I would actually be disappointed if they did change their design within the past two months. I hope they make the same mandolins and mandolas for as long as I live. Just like I hoped Mitchell would make the 308 spinning (fishing) reel forever.

ukethumber, You may be surprised to know that those reels can sometimes be found in antique stores. I've seen'em in FL and I have picked up a couple of 300s for myself over the past few years. I'll keep my eyes peeled for a 308.

My impression was that the bodies were a hair larger and that the headstocks were a bit more curved on top. But I haven't seen a midmo for awhile, so I was working from memory.
