We are going to Mandofest so there is the Mando content. I promise I will kill this thread as soon as I can but I really need help here. Every time I get on the net a completely unwanted tool bar appears called "Download Five Dent". I have run Adware, Spybot S&D and nothing will touch it. I have deleted all cookies and Temp internet files, no luck, still there. I have run a search from the Start button, again, no luck. I can uncheck it and it will re-appear every time I change screens. I shut it off at Yahoo and it popped right back when I came to the Cafe. Shut it off again, right back when I moved to Message Board etc etc. Computer advice PLEASE!
Karen

Haven't seen this one yet, but I've had good results with Spybot. Are you sure you have the latest update? Even if you have just downloaded and installed it, you still need to to do an update search.

Hi Karen,
..and I bet your home page keeps getting reset.
OK here's what to do. It is an entry in the registry. Be very careful doing stuff in it as I once deleted the wrong thing and had to re-install windows.

If click on the start menu and go to "Run", type in regedit. A screen will display. Then from the menu of regedit screen you can search the registry. Search on something you can seen on the menu bar like "Five Dent".

Then you need to delete the values on the right hand side.
(OR you may have to delete the key on the left, BUT NOT THE PARENT KEY just the one that contains the value.)
Be very careful here. I once deleted the entire "key" on the left side accidently and ....oops. it was something that is used by all apps and nothing worked. I Hope this helps.

Spybot would not find this.

Tom
Did exactly what you said and the words "Download Five Dent" were removed from the Toolbar options but the check mark and the subsequent toolbar is still there!! AARRGGHHH! #So we got the words but not the guts. #The delete option under regedit would not delete the whole thing just the words. #What next? # Thanks so far!
Karen

Just tried 5 other things. Still there!

did you look for it under add/remove programs?

You probably have to click of the left hand side and delete the key.
DO NOT DELETE THE MOST PARENT KEY. Expand folder all the way and make sure the lowest level that shows that value is what you delete. I hate messing in this area myself and did screw up my computer so I do not want that to happen to you.
It does have to do with the registry so if you know anybody computer literate
who know what they are doing, that would be best. I am an application developer. I work with computers but not PC literate. In fact I hate these things -too plastic.

OK
The "Name" has a tiny icon of a torn piece of paper the has the lowercase letters "ab" in it and the word "default". The "Type" column says REG_SZ. So where on the left side is that buried? I am NOT letting this go. Bill Gates is starting to p**s me off. It is now personal! (LOL)
He needs to authorize a mandolin of choice to everyone in the world!

Karen, doubt you'll find an answer on this out here. I have some experience with this but I'd need to be sitting at your PC to assist. I'd say the first goal is to get enough off to stop in re-downloading itself and then STOP using IE until you get it 100% off. Most of the new ones are written well enough the AdAware and some of the other freeware/shareware programs can't detect them. We have a guy at work this is all he does, help people remove these and it's a busy job. Call me at home tomorrow during the day and we can chat about it (we know each other).

"I have itchy scalp. Any ideas?".
-Have you tried scratching it with your elbow? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Have you tried scratching it with your elbow?
It would probably work as well as your other advice on this thread! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
