I've never heard of him and I am finding two "Ted Hawkins" online who are folk musicians. Do you have a link?

Ted Hawkins was the mandolin player for Gid Tanner and the
Skillet Lickers. Old time string band from Ga., recorded in late 1920s. Riley Puckett the guitar player.

Hawkins Rag was recorded by the the New Lost City Ramblers.

Hawkins plays on Tanner's Hornpipe which is Ricketts' Hornpipe renamed. Nice right hand.

FYI
This Ted Hawkins should not be confused with the Blues Guitar Artist by the same name.

He plays mandolin behind three fiddles on a bunch of recordings I have
Mississippi Sawyer, Bully of The Town, Down Yonder

but the Ted Hawkins Riley Puckett solo stuff is guitar and mandolin and that is the stuff I am referencing.

Tanner's Rag is different then Tanner's Hornpipe, but I have a copy of Rickett's Hornpipe by the skillet lickers with three fiddles and Ted Hawkins on Mando.

I am looking for some sort of resource for this style of mandolin, i.e. guitar and mandolin rags
Joe Evans, Ted Hawkins, H.M. Barnes, John Dilleshaw, Coley Jones.

Steve Parker self published a book on rags.
There was a thread about it somewhere in one of
the discussion boards.
It comes with a CD directly from the notation.
I recommend it.

Steve Parker
read the above messages.

Jackson Stomp was originally recorded in A
by the Mississippi Mud Steppers
and the New Lost City Ramblers also recorded it in
A on their all instrumental album. I play it in A.
It's good to have a tune like this in A rather than C.

"Jackson Stomp" was originally recorded in the key of Bb by The Mississippi Mud Steppers. I used to think it was recorded by them in A, but I was wrong.

I play Hawkins Rag, which I learned from Mike Seeger's book. It's a good one. The cd has MS playing it. There's also a fine version on Adam Tanner's "Rare Rags and Stringband Blues".

I have Steve Parker's book, and it is really good.

I am having trouble getting the rhythms right, it will take a lot more listening for it to get under my skin. But once it does, I think I will be able to pick this stuff up easier.
