Interesting for what he says about the (lack of a) market for music DVDs. This is actually something I had noticed: a few years ago, there used to be DVDs with bonus CDs thrown in. Now we get CDs with bonus DVDs thrown in, or even (in the case of the Born To Run reissue) two bonus DVDs.
For mandoling content: the recent Mike Marshall/Hamilton de Hollanda album has a free bonus DVD...

I'm a big Tull and IA fan. #I found this interesting:
I personally wouldn’t be drawn to a Rolling Stones concert because, frankly, I don’t enjoy the pageantry and spectacle and a bunch of wrinkly old men wearing clothes that look really silly on them in my opinion. But on a musical basis, what little bits of live Rolling Stones music I’ve heard recently, I think the Stones are a much better band and much better entertainers than ever they were before.
I thought to myself, "Ian, remember your silly dress days.." and as I read further:
Jethro Tull went on to use a lot of production stuff for a while. Frankly, I don’t regret it, but I am slightly embarrassed about doing it. It did become too theatrical, too showbiz. I do think it detracts from the music. I feel it detracted from the reputation that Jethro Tull enjoys in part today.
Nice read.

IA looks like he's holding up rather well compared to a lot. I bought a (live) Robin Trower DVD Living Out Of Time recorded in 2005. Sonically he sounded as good as he ever did. #However, the visual apsect was unnerving, as he now looks more like Three's Company era Don Knotts, but could still wail. If he had been wearing a red golfing shirt and a turned down white sailor's hat..... you know who's grandpa who was lost in 1914 on the HMS Minnow. #Robin Trower pic (http://www.musiktheater-rex.de/galerie/robin-trower.jpg)
I too thought the part concerning DVD production was particularly interesting. Given those costs, it hard to see new live material put out solely for release as a DVD. It'll probably be tied into a television broadcast. #There's already so much (video) material being aired already which was specifically for television broadcast, and the audio quality is very good:
Austin City Limits
Soundstage
Sierra Center Stage (California)
Mountain Stage (West Virginia)
Decades Live
VH1C Storytellers
Sessions@W54th
Jubilee #(Kentrucky)
Song Of The Mountain (Virginia)
Prairie Home Companion specials
Great Performances
Grand Ol Opry Live
CMT Crossroads
Jazz Central #(BETJ)
Studio Jams #(BETJ)
Solos: The Jazz Sessions (Bravo Canada, also BETJ)
Rendevouz in NY w/Chick Corea #(BETJ)
Live From The Knitting Factory (BETJ)
(and then there's archives of all that vintage BBC-TV stuff (some of which is now being shown on VH1C:
Old Grey Whistle Test
Rock Goes To College
Sight and Sound)

I once saw Ian (me and 5,000 others) at Macy's in Manhattan, where he was promoting smoked salmon from his fish farm and wearing a kilt. But to his credit he never mixes hawking fish with his art (Gene Simmons please take note).

Smart, insightful, creative, lived the rock life and lived to tell the tale, what more is there? Oh yeah, keep on doing it!
Peace, Mooh.
I recently rented a Corrs concert video (no mandolin). #It used a DVD feature that I'd not seen used in a meaningful way before. #On a few on the songs, you had the option of camera angle, allowing you to select a member of the band and watch them for the duration of the song. #Not sure how big a market there would be for such a thing but imagine watching a DVD and being able to select an camera that stays on the mandolin.

Jethro Tull was probably one of the first bands to get me interested in acoustic music.
