I am a bluegrass mandolinist that has been playing lots of jazz(just picked up a fake book). I am left handed and i am looking for a Symetrical solid body electric, Maybe someone that can build me a custom one or possiabley a kit ( i have already assembled an IV kit). Being lefty is a drag but i want to have a nice electric instrument around the house let me know what you guys think....

I had someone build a 4 string electric for me , in the general outline of the A style mandolin I already owned. it is quite nice , one off.

Martin Stillon E mando website , and the 4,5&8 string section at the bottom of the BB you are in, will get you started.
Consider Viola pitch CGDA and a bit longer scale too (15 3/4"), as the higher notes will be there, then,
and the lower ones wont be, on gdae violin tuning
Webber Mavrick may build a 5 string downsideup version for you, won't hurt to ask.

Hi Steve, I too am a left handed bluegrass mandolin player. Just recently I have started to pick up my electric mandolin again to try to play some Western Swing.

Mine is a left-handed 5-string called a mandoblaster. It is not symmetrical. It was made by BlueStar instruments and they are available at Elderly. Don't remember the cost off hand but it was reasonable.

$1200 and I could flip one around for you.I have some killer chunks of ash just waiting for the call. 5 way switch with Kent Armstrong mini hums. It's a ton of fun to build and play.

You might want to scoot down to the electric mandolin forum (http://www.mandolincafe.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=SF;f=22) and try posting there...

Bummer, just drilled the holes for the knobs on a two point. Up until then it could have gone either way. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Well, you could just drill them all the way through, then drill a bunch more and make a "Swiss cheese electric" in homage to Bussmann.
