For those who don't know it I thought I'd mention Tony Rice's compilation CD, "Bluegrass Guitar Collection." All instrumentals, many classic fiddle tunes, and with an array of great mando players. Bush, Lawson, Gaudreau, Blake, Grisman, Larry Rice, Reischman. A beautiful collection. And Tony's not bad either.

It's funny you should mention this, I just got a new copy of the CD because I searched for my old one for weeks to no avail. I think I must have loaned it to someone but can't remember who. This is my number one reference CD and am using it to learn Stoney Point right now.

I need to look into getting that one myself. I've always been a fan of his "Cold On The Shoulder" project. I also wore out "The Rice Brothers" when it first was available on cassette. Great stuff that featured Rickie Simpkins on fiddle and viola. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/coffee.gif

You've got to get Ricky Simpkins' "Dancing on the fingerboard". Tony is all over the album. He even sings on it. I have hundreds of bluegrass CD's. This one is in the top five.

That's my all-time favorite bluegrass CD, and as much as I like Tony's guitar work, the mandolin and fiddle playing steals the show. Jimmy G.'s work on Jerusalem Ridge is just choice.
I ordered mine from trtabs.com and Tony signed it.
Listening to 'Port Tobacco' off Me and My Guitar right now, via 1gb Flash drive ($4.99, btw).
Sam Bush is da man.
For Tony Rice fans (and J Douglas, Dan T. Barry Bales, Sam Bush, Daryl Anger) Someone posted the revival of Manzanita as performed at Rocky Grass this summer on youtube. Sat and watched them all last night.

I actually bought that cd a month or so ago and it was an instant favorite, whoever mentioned jeruselem ridge is correct however if you like that song mike marshall and darol anger's live version is rediculous but even more so is casey driessen's version of it on 3D

And, of course, for just the pure sound of mandolin, guitar, and two-part harmony there is "Skaggs & Rice." One of my favorite CDs of all time.

Ordered the CD today - should be here tomorrow. Looking forward to it...
Is the version of Jerusalem Ridge in The Fiddler's FAkebook a good transcription? I guess I'll find out tomorrow but enjoyed sightreading it just now!
