While I usually listened to harder rock, I used to love Seals and Crofts. Great harmony. Great musicians. The toy piano in Summer Breeze, the cool break in Hummingbird. Good stuff! Might not fit in a Rock discussion, but it was at least pop.

So, does anyone know of any posted tabs, chords, or sheet music of their songs? I think Dash Crofts was once a Texas fiddle champion, so I assume their stuff lends itself to mandolin (actually I think he plays Mando too). They were great acoustic musicians. Are they still around? I see on the Web fans calling for a reunion.

One of their distinctives was that Dash plyed Mando, & apparently well, though I never thought it stood out in their music as it should.

As far as mainstream radio in the US during the 70's, Seals and Crofts (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:9ye997q7krjt~T1) probably had more mando-airtime than anyone, including Rod Stewart's mega-hit "Maggie Mae" (Ray Jackson of Lindisfarne on mando) and the mandolin tracks on Led Zeppelin III and IV ("Goin' To California", "That's The Way", "Battle of Evermore") which you'd probably hear on FM album radio.

Some of what you might assume is electric guitar on the Seals/Crofts hits is actually acoustic/electric mando.

That's interesting. I knew they did some mando, but not to that extent. Anyway, I've been picking "Summer Breeze" on my Eastman, and it's a whole lot of fun. Wish I knew the harmony on the break!

The instrumental parts that really stick in my mind from S & C are the tasty guitar licks Louie Shelton played. He was a master of timing and taste.

The vocal harmonies that stick most in my mind from S&C are in the break during Hummingbird. The song just soars at that point.
