Bought my first album of mandolin music today, well more accurately downloaded it from iTunes. This might be old hat but it's Mandolin Magic by Evan Marshall. There's a really great and varied selections of songs on the album - traditionals, world tunes, mandolin versions of a few well known old favourites. His technique is something to aspire to - you'd swear there were two mandolinists but apparantly it's the one guy accompanying himself.

Yeah, he's a great choice, he specializes in "duo style", which sounds exactly as you describe. He has a manual for teaching Duo, takes you through his "Joyful Variations" on Ode To Joy.

If you have any curiosity about the romantic-era compositions where the style was developed, check out Gertrud (ex-Tröster) Weyhofen's recording of the preludes by Raffaele Calace (1863-1934) (http://www.amazon.com/Romantic-Mandolin-Raphael-Calace/dp/B00000459C/sr=8-2/qid=1167170271/ref=sr_1_2/103-6120982-1767823?ie=UTF8&s=music). Very nice.
