Many have posted stories here about the "one that got away" and others about mandos they'll never sell. #I'm curious about the number of recent resales of Pomeroy's. #
Several original buyers have raved about them here, so it leaves me wondering-- why have several been recently listed for sale in the classifieds? #Is it just chance that we've seen maybe 10 to 15% of the total production up for resale recently?

Matt,
I am selling my Pomeroy F4 only because I must for financial reasons. Selling it is the last thing I want to do.
I know that the Pomeroy A that was just listed in the Classifieds was sold to fund the purchase of a Pomeroy F5. I believe the seller also has a Pomeroy mandola.
Don has made probably 50 or so instruments at this point. I have seen or heard of only 5 for sale "second hand". That percentage doesn't seem out of line.
I cannot say enough good things about Don Paine or his instruments. His F5's are fantastic and they have their own tone. They are not Gibson clones. They are more muscular in tone than many other typical F5's on the market today. His oval holes are equally great, if not better.
Keith
i've only had my Pomeroy F5 about a week now and can't say enough good things about it. i don't need it, but if i could afford it i would love to get my hands on that F4. that's my 2 cents about the Pomeroys. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Actually, Matt brings up an interesting question...what percenteage of a luthier's total build number do we see on the used market? How many times are they turned over?
My local shop is the only Nugget dealer and acts a clearing house for used Nuggets as well. In the past 5-6 years I have seen probably 10-12 used Nugget A's and F's come through there. I have also seen a handful sell on the Cafe Classifieds. I think Mike Kemnitzer has built less than 300 instruments. What percentage have sold used in the last 30 years?
I have seen a lot of used Phoenix mandolins on the market. How many has Rolfe built? How about Lynn Dudenbostel? He has probably built less than 20 mandolins. I have seen 2 used Dudes for sale on the Cafe. Brentrup? Gilchrist? Monteleone? How about the big guys, like Weber and Gibson/Flatiron? What perecntage of their mandolins get turned over and how many times?
There are some builder's mandolins that rarely come up for sale. I was always on the hunt for a used Krishot and in 4 years I only found 4. One was an A. Of the F's, one the buyer changed his mind, and the other two sold before I could get to them.
I'd be curious to know how many pickers keep a mandolin (that they purchased new) for life?

I would be swooping that F4 up ASAP ... if I had the cash. Keith ... do you have a payment plan? I live right down the road, so you could come down and borrow that sweet little thing when you need a fix.
It's a fantastic instrument.
I can't quite imagine selling my Pomeroy ... but if I needed money to take care of my family, it would probably be a consideration.
Best thing about it is ... You will most likely get what you paid for it or more. Not like some Weber’s or other name brands that depreciate as soon as you buy them.

hunter,
i removed the ad for my A5 because i could not bring myself to part with the mandolin. #the mandola and the mandolin are still here. #
the only way i'd sell was if i had ordered another already.

I tried to snag it but Keith said someone outdrew me. Don't know who, but I'll bet we hear from the lucky winner once they get their hands on it. I am so envious.
Heck , good mandos are bought and sold all the time - it's the American way - just look at the classifieds , it's no reflection on the mando being bad. I've sold some good mandos myself , either by necessity , or just wanted to try something else and couldn't afford to keep both.
