I live near battle creek Michigan and I am looking for someone to help me improve my mandolin skills. I am 25 years old and have been playing bluegrass mando off and on for the last 10 years with no instruction. I played piano for about 10 years with formal lessons so i have some knowledge of basic music theory. I am looking for someone to get with once or twice a month. if you are interested let me know

Howdy. I live right down the rutted trail known as I-94 from you, in Kalamazoo.
I'm not sure from your post if you're looking to improve your bluegrass playing per se or if you're looking to become more of a musician whose instrument is the mandolin.
If it's the lattter, I would recommend Jackie Zito very highly. She teaches at Crescendo Academy of Music in downtown Kalamazoo, which has students from young kids to seniors, and at all levels, not just beginners. She's a skilled (and schooled) musician, plays tasteful mando so cleanly you'd swear you were listening to a final recording cut, and is a very nice person to boot. What she doesn't play is bluegrass.
The phone number at Crescendo Academy is 269-345-6664.
Hope that helps.

One of my favorite mando players ever is Bruce Ling, who lives and teaches in Comstock Park, MI. I know that is not real close to you, but I would drive a long distance to take lessons from him. Check out some of the tunes on his website, you'll see what I mean:

Thanks guys I will give both of them a call. I am definetly looking for a bluegrass instructor so the fellow in Comsock park will probably be my best bet
There's also Joel Mabus in Kalamazoo. Excellent multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. He's a good teacher too, I took a couple of lessons from him.
