Anyone doing Cajun tunes?

My group is doing some waltzes, 'The old Carpenter's waltz', 'Jolie Jous Roses', and 'Empty Bottle Stomp'. I had a chat with my guitarist as to whether a chop or an open strum would work better. He liked both. I dunno, it ain't bluegrass, that's for sure.

If anyone's playin' this stuff or wants to comment, I'd appreciate the input.

The others are playing fiddle, upright bass, and guitar.

Merci

Mike Doucet and Tommy Comeaux both contributed Cajun mando columns to The Mandocrucian's Digest. See link below for info/contents of back issues.

I am playing with a bunch of fiddlers all Cajun stuff:

Nonc Will
Chez Seychelles
Mardi Gras
Cherokee Waltz/Midland Two Step
Blues a Bebe
Valse de Soleil Couche
Reel de Joy
Homr Sweet Home Waltz
My true love

The above are just a few we are learning/playing there are others but I can't recall all the names right now.

Anyway lots of fun, we do a jam/gig once a month at a local bar on Sunday afternoons folks come to listen dance eat drink and watch football all at the same place rather confusing but also rather homey and fun. I love to see it when couples get up and dance to this stuff!

I am playing a Wailing Resonator mandolin and it is LOUD but you have to have a really loud mando with you are playing unplugged with 6 fiddlers a couple guitars and 3 accordins (sp) the bass usually is the only instrument that is amped.
Several folks in the group can actually sing in French and do it well! or it sounds right to me i can barley sing in English let alone French http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
