Sad that there is no one in the country's 4th largest city that wants to jam. Truthfully, the music scene is somewhat abysmal in this city - unless you want to play blues guitar, which I did for a while. Do any forum members have any ideas for me? Perhaps, there is a guitar forum I should be asking on...?

You can drop by Fullers Vintage Guitars. They might be able to help you find someone.

There is a monthly jam in the Pasadena / Clear Lake area. It's the same organization that sponsored the TX Mando Championship this year. There was "cafe" string on this event.

You can also find out where Kelly Lancaster is playing www.highlonesomegypsy.com and go hear possibly the best mando player in Houston. He's very friendly and would tell you of any jams he knows.

If all else fails come join our Sat afternoon jam at the Old Time String Shop in Nacogdoches (2 hr North on 59).

I'm confident that you'll find some people to play with. I've picked with a lot of old time/BG players from Houston that visited Nac.

Hello,
I apologize for taking so long to reply. I wish I had contacted you Tom. Thanks Jon for the offer. I may take you up on that sometime. Fullers is a good idea.

I am really looking for someone to work up some "classical" material with. If anyone here has any ideas, I would certainly appreciate it.

Bay Area BG does a monthly jam/show in League City once a month. It used to be a pretty good get-together. The show was better than jamming opportunities, at least on the several occasions that I attended and that was in the late 90's...'98-'99. The folks that ran the show were nice and the shows fetured good groups, but I never did see a lot of jams going on.

Shucks, I was in Memphis when you posted this.

That jam is featuring a performance by Steve Kaufman in January. #A good time will be had by all.

There is a Sunday afternoon acoustic "you call it" jam at Last Concert Cafe downtown. #Sometimes it's real good, & sometimes it's not, but folks of all levels are welcome & included. #Lot's of bands that play there on Sat night hang out if they don't have to hit the road too early. #Hot Buttered Rum & RailRoad Earth are scheduled soon. #We can only hope, right?

If you'd like to get together & pick some, I'm down. #Hit me off forum at psychodillo@hotmail.com.

Why couldn't you visit the Rice or Univ. of Houston music departments and meet some classical string players.

Here's a link to a group that meets regularly; it boasts several good mandolinists: http://www.brazosriverpickers.com/

Hello,

I've sent email replies to both Kathy and Dillo. I'd love to get together and play.

What we really need is a mandolin orchestra in Houston. Austin has one...

Sorry for the slow reply - hadn't noticed this thread until today. I'm always looking for jam partners. I pick a little guitar (mostly fiddle tunes), and I started in on mandolin last fall. Just sent you a PM. Feel free to contact me anytime.

Best,
Joe

David - there are a handful of jams centered around Detroit that have been posted to our site. http://www.folkjam.org/?start=detroit,mi It's not enough to keep you busy every night of the week and the styles are pretty diverse, but I'd bet there are more to be uncovered. I know you've got your own outlet for jam lists, but you are certainly welcome to post some of the bluegrass sessions you attend to folkjam.org too so that they get additional exposure.
