View Full Version : Bela bartok
Just curious if anyone has played through these. I understand the Modern Mandolin Quartet recorded some Bartok but there doesn't seem to be much else out there. Really a great composer.
I have played through them many times:
2 mandolins
2 guitars
violin and mandolin (some work this way better than others)
They are wonderful pieces and, especially combined with the Mikrokosmos (6 books for piano), make for a real window into Bartok's style and a good preparation for understanding the larger works: String Quartets, Concerto for Orchestra, Piano Concerti etc.

The Kerman Mandolin Quartet recorded 5 of these duets (nos. 14,3,32,28,35) on their CD. I got my copy from CD Baby. They sound great on mando.

I saw Bream perform several as guitar solos in the mid 1990s. Yummy.

These are great to play. I have played many of them with two mandolins and some with violin and mandolin. Either way I really enjoyed playing them. I have always enjoyed Bartok's music.
