Any Kentucky A owners out there know the difference between the 250, and the 300 level As? The 250 has all solid woods (and I note that the 250 ads say "carved" where the 380 doesn't say carved), and I've been told to stay away from the 300 laminates, but then why the higher price for the laminate back 300s? And, then, is the only difference between the 380 and the 250 (besides color) the neck extension? And will I kick myself for not having a neck extension? Any other recomendations about this entry level mandos from Kentucky owners? I recognize that fit and finish will be sub-American, but I can live with that for a entry level mando. And one last thing... anybody have folkofthewood experience? Will they "handpick" mandos for you? I get the impression that musiciansfriend won't. Nobody around these parts stocks Kentucky. (I know I should go buy a Gibson, but it's better for all parties concerned (me) if I ease my way into this, even if that means I spend twice as much money.)

You can read this at http://www.gregboyd.com

New Kentucky KM-250S. Carved and graduated top and back! These are very similar to the KM-150S shown above, except the KM-250S has inlaid pearl in headstock and has graduated solid spruce top for more depth of tone. $365 including hard case AND pro set-up.

New Kentucky KM-350S. Carved, graduated, and Hand-Voiced top and back. Has better grades of wood, inlay, tuners, etc, than the KM-250S. The tone on these gets very close to the sound of mandolins that cost much more. $445 w/ Set-up and OHC.
