After several years of worrying about keeping my babies properly humidified during the winter, and trying various room humidifiers that were unsatisfactory for one reason or another, I found the answer.
Air-O-Swiss, model AOS 7135. Silent operation. Allows you to set the desired humidity level, and then keeps it at that level. Easy to set up and use. I set it for 50% humidity, and then forget about it.
No financial interest whatsoever, just a very satisfied customer.

Where can I find this? And for how much? I’m tired of worrying about humidity levels—although living where I do, the problem in the summer is too much, rather than too little.

Thanks.

Just do an internet search for Air-O-Swiss model 7135. You'll find somebody that will sell you one.

I bought from this company. #Delivery was swift. #Phone person was very helpful in choosing this model. The 2 gallon tank lasts alot longer than other humidifiers that I have used.

I bought a Bonaire (Holmes) from Sears just last week.

2 Digital readouts - room humidity and what you want it to be.

Holds a ton of water.

Automatic and manual.

Cost $79.

That Air-O-Swiss is a desktop model - my Bonaire is a standing floor unit.

Same as this Holmes model:

Works terrific. Even has an indicator to let you know when
the filter is dirty!

Cold mists feel clammy in the winter. I do not like leaving the warm mist "on" when I am not home due to the heating element do-hicky.
I keep them in the case with a film container that I made holes in, and a wet sponge inside of it.

Always made more sense to me to humidify the room. Scary idea for me to have a container with water with my instruments. I know, they get squeezed out till their just damp, etc., but it's still a scary concept for me.

Warm water humidifiers, by the way, are incredibly prone to bacteria, fungi, and the like. Much more so than cold water ones.

By the way, I was reading up on my company benefits, about my flexible spending plan (which allows you to use pre-tax dollars set aside for medical expenses not covered by insurance, such as deductables, over the counter medications, etc). Guess what is covered? Humidifiers!

If you have such a plan, you may want to check it out.

Be sure to clean the humidifier daily or you'll introduce bacteria to your room.

Actually, there is a special liquid to add to the water in the cold water humidifiers that takes care of that.

Been using it for years and it's pretty good.

Got an Air-O-Swiss 7135 about a year ago. It has an ionization in the water reservoir that is supposed to take care of anything living in the water. Have not used it yet this season, but it worked out great last winter.
