appropriate adhesive glue for loose pickguard

What would be the appropriate adhesive/glue to attach a loosened pickguard from its ? ebony/black wood "pad" (on the metal arm) for a 1988 Gibson F5L? #I would hate to use something that might quickly or slowly decompose the plastic pickguard. Any help or insight would be appreciated. Thanks, Doug

I would use epoxy for such a joint. neatly roughen the surfaces involved and let the epoxy form a fillet at the right angles made by the two pieces.
