Is Drowsy Maggie played two A parts then two B parts or just A-B and repeat? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sleepy.gif

If you are playing it as an Irish tune, it is AA BB
Here are the ABCs:

Just plug it into the Tune-A-Tron Converter (http://www.concertina.net/tunes_convert.html) for notation

It's in standard AA BB format, but the parts are short, so it's only a 16-bar tune (rather than the standard 32 bars), and the second B has a variation in the last two bars. I don't read ABC all that fluently, but it looks like it's notated there as a 24-bar tune, which interprets the Bs (including the variation) as one long 8-bar segment which then repeats. Scholars differ.
Great old tune, and very nice on the mandolin. There are, BTW, several other tunes bearing the same name.

I learned it on the clawhammer banjo. It is a great tune. I need to find a few recordings of it. It just seemed a little short and I thought I wasn't playing it right.
That ABC format it totally foreign to me. I can make out the first few lines about the keys etc. but the rest is http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif.
Here's a link to The ABC of ABC (http://www.abc-notation.com/introduction/index.html) which explains the format. You can plug the ABC Mike posted into the Tune-A-Tron converter (the link in Mike's post) to generate standard notation or you can convert it with apps like TablEdit (at least the licensed version... I don't know if the freebie viewer imports). There are a bunch of other ABC apps out there... you can search for some of them here (http://www.abc-notation.com/abcapp/index.html).

Thanks Paul D. That makes sense. I like it. It would probably be good for my hubby, he is learning bass .

We played Drowsy Maggie last night after Thanksgiving supper (one of many tunes/songs) and it sounds great with fiddle and mando playing in sync. This is one of the tunes, that each time you play through it, kicking up the tempo can raise the legs and make everyone jump out o' their chairs to dance. The fiddler(sis in law blew me out the door on the final couple of repeats) http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif Fun tune all the way around.

harwilli55,
That is a fun tune. I'm still working on getting it up to speed on banjer. I don't ever play it on mandolin but I'm going to have to.
I love the quote you chose for your signature.
