I was writing about Gordon to my cousin who is just getting a 505. I looked through the search engine, got a ton of Gordons, but nothing more. #Also, what was his official position with Eastman when he was with them?

Gordon Roberts is the Former Head of Mandos and Guitars with Eastman (I believe). #He used to be EastmanGordon on the cafe now he is MandoGordon. #Unofficially, I would say he was their best salesman, customer service rep and face of the company to our portion of the mandolin universe (the Cafe'). #His absence in these capacities has not helped Eastman's reputation on the boards lately. I would imagine there would be a similar hit to Gibson if BigJoe Vest quit participating.
FYI, Gordon is now the Man for the Draleon Gypsy mandos and Guitars from Century Strings (http://www.centurystrings.com/)
Best o luck

Just like to say that after I left Eastman my family and I were immediately put into the witness protection program and my complete identity was changed. I now only answer to the name mandogordon. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Chill out guys, Eastman is still an amazing product and as far as I can tell things are running along very smoothly without me. Last Friday night one of my heroes and great friends John Pisano played the Smithsonian Jazz Cafe and all the folks from Eastman turned out and we all had a great time. The enthusiasm for the product is as high as it's ever been over there and the instruments just keep on getting better in my opinion. Don't be so hard on them for not participating here to the level that I did. Most of the posts that came from me were posted from home after a long day at work, I rarely had time in my regular workaday life to get online and check out the message boards. I did it at home because I love this stuff and it's a pleasure to me to participate. The fact that others have lives outside their careers shouldn't be held against them methinks. Eastman is a small company and there are only so many hours in a work day.
Thanks for all the nice words Jamie, you made me blush.

ps. Want to see something really exciting? Check out what Steve Perry just popped into my hands for a quick try this afternoon. It's still in the development stage apparently but I have to tell you I was more than impressed.
Appalachian Mandolin (http://www.giannaviolins.com/esmando/Appalachian.html)
This was one of the finest sounding instruments I have played in many a moon. It has bark and it has the sweetest pianolike tone when you back off a little. The slabcut back is to die for and the fit and finish rivals anything out there. I've been waiting for several years for Steve to do this and it was definitely worth the wait. Way to go voodooman!

Blush.
I do like my new mando.
I was just visiting Eastman. There's a reason folks there aren't on here - they're running like mad as fast as they can. Keep in mind that Eastman has the bowed strings going, guitars, mandolins, cases, accessories, etc. There really aren't very many people involved considering the scale of activity. But they always have time to show me the incoming shipment items, let me look over stuff as long as I want. I picked out a bunch of mandolins, a few guitars, and managed to leave the fiddles alone! I should have pulled one of the light reddish amber sunburst spirit varnish MD815 mandolins out to show Gordon. Just beautiful.
Anyway, Saul runs around organizing things. Joe and Dave handle most of the operations on the mandolins & guitars. Angel does setups. If you think of the level of effort to inspect, polish up, setup, sort, pack, etc it's amazing that such a small staff can get these things turned around so well and quickly.
And Gordon looks healthy. He's always fun to visit with.
