the first mando i ever bought was a galveston,and it was completely unplayable. i ended up giving it away, two years later i bought another mando and actually started playing.

Strangely, very strangely, I played a very stiff, heavily lacquered Galveston mandolin.....flat top, round hole, tear drop shape, that a friend bought in MACEDONIA. I'm sure it is the same Galveston that makes so many ###### instruments in the Orient. Very ###### tailpiece kept in place with several nails that STUCK OUT and could rip your clothes or your skin!
Except, that this one was quite playable, and it was LOUD and very bright and crisp sounding. And LOUD.
Really surprised me. Maybe it was set up by someone who knew what they were doing. I actually liked playing it........I told you it was strange.......
