Judging by the turnout, I'd say you had enough pickers for four separate jams! #Why not grab four baseball caps, put each picker's name into the cap corresponding to his axe (banjo, mando, fiddle, guitar) and select names randomly for four independent sessions?

Use this method every week and you'll ensure a healthy rotation of skills and interaction, so that everyone learns something. #

I'm guessing bass players are scarce in your neck of the woods? # #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I'll bet there are plenty of bass Players around. It's just none of them want to haul that "dog house". Ever try to stuff one of those things into a Saturn? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Only 3 guitars? With that many other instruments the normal ratio for guitars should have been about 30 instead of 3.

... and from my experience about 10 different beat patterns. I walked into a jam like that a while back and my friend said, "Pick whatever rythmn you want to play with, there's plenty to choose from."

lol, while the turnout varies at our local jam it's not unusual to have 10 guitars, 3 banjos, 4 mandolins, 4 fiddles, 2 dobros plus a number of folks sitting on the perimeter playing various instruments.

Sometimes it's fun, sometimes it's a mess, sometimes it's both http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
